Køge Municipality: Effective meetings before, during and after
Køge Municipality wanted meeting leadership that works in practice. How we trained the municipality’s chairs over two days, three weeks apart.
The challenge
Most people have a love-hate relationship with meetings: they take time, but they're essential to working well together. Køge Municipality wanted to give everyone who chairs meetings the tools to make them more focused and effective. The municipality uses the 40-20-40 model for embedding learning, where what happens before and after a course matters as much as the course days themselves.
Our approach
Two course days around three weeks apart, so participants could try the tools in their own meetings and bring their experience back:
- Before the meeting: purpose, agenda, attendees, timing and format
- During the meeting: the chair's role, involving participants, energy, facilitation, conclusions and actions
- After the meeting: minutes and follow-up, so decisions are put into practice
- Body language: how the chair can use their body language deliberately
The teaching combined theory, discussion and exercises based on the municipality's own meetings.
The result
The chairs went home with practical tools to prepare, lead and follow up on meetings – and with experience from their own meetings between the two course days, so the learning was embedded in everyday work.
